Week 1 of the RISC Over 40 Season Opener: Let the Action Begin!

What an incredible way to kick off the season! From dramatic equalizers to late-game heroics, Week 1 delivered excitement, intensity, and unforgettable moments across every match. Fans brought the energy, players left it all on the field, and the Over 40 division showed once again why Sunday league football is special.

Real Colombia 3 – 3 Cranston Portuguese

📍 Lusitania Field – Cumberland, RI
⏰ Kickoff: 9:00 AM

The season opener lived up to the hype with a thrilling 3-3 draw between Real Colombia and Cranston Portuguese.

Real Colombia’s Joao Marques opened the scoring early, setting the tone for an action-packed battle. Cranston Portuguese responded in the 66th minute when Joao Santos found the equalizer. Just moments later, Matthew Baptista gave Cranston Portuguese the lead, but Joshua Giraldo answered immediately for Real Colombia in the 68th minute.

Baptista struck again to restore the advantage for Cranston Portuguese, but the drama wasn’t over yet. In the 88th minute, Victor Zepeda delivered a clutch equalizer for Real Colombia, sealing an unforgettable finish to a Sunday league classic.

Mexico 2 – 0 Tigre Futebol Clube

📍 Gano Street – Providence, RI
⏰ Kickoff: 9:00 AM

After a scoreless first half, Mexico came alive in the second half with a dominant performance.

Javier Montoya broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, giving Mexico the momentum they needed. Abraham Montufar added another in the 81st minute to secure a strong 2-0 victory over Tigre Futebol Clube.

A disciplined defensive effort and clinical finishing helped Mexico start the season with an important win.

São Nicolau 3 – 1 Academica FC

📍 Bliss Field – Rehoboth Youth Soccer Field
⏰ Kickoff: 11:00 AM

This matchup featured high intensity from the opening whistle, with both teams battling hard through the first 30 minutes.

In the 33rd minute, São Nicolau’s #9 Autil Dos Santos Lopes broke through with the opening goal. He struck again in the 55th minute to double the lead and put São Nicolau in control.

Academica FC responded in the 72nd minute through Claudio Semedo, making it 2-1 and reigniting the contest. However, São Nicolau quickly regained momentum, and #14 Olademir Dias added the third goal to secure a 3-1 victory.
